There are many plants that react uniquely in each species. Several studies show that drying works sufficiently for human consumption. Given that we consume far less grassy material than herbivores, the risk is minimal when moderate amounts are consumed. Nonetheless, we should always be cautious of contrary and allergic reactions to any plant. Everything from goldenrod and ragweed or pigweed to morels can cause allergic or negative reactions in individuals. Horsetail should only be consumed in small amounts, as the silica is abrasive. Topical remedies are most effective. Two months ago, I broke one of my small toes (I did not know that was possible, given that they are so delicate), and the toe did not heal when lightly bound. Using a horsetail paste wrapped in plantain leaves for two weeks allows me to use the foot with almost no pain today. <br />BobRobert (Bob) Leehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11412590660891677808noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4077291876262198391.post-65297139791698291182013-06-05T18:56:39.411-05:002013-06-05T18:56:39.411-05:00"By drying the herb or heating it, the thiami..."By drying the herb or heating it, the thiaminase in it will be destroyed,"<br /><br />This is not true. When we dry hay with horsetail in it, the thiaminase is even stronger. We have nearly lost 2 horses to horsetail poisoning. It happens over a matter of a few days of eating too much horsetail in the hay. B1 shots over several days, given in time, can save the horse. If you were to dry the horsetail over 120 degrees, the thiaminase might indeed be deactivated but just drying it, No.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4077291876262198391.post-60358694345335762062012-07-30T16:38:47.888-05:002012-07-30T16:38:47.888-05:00Thanks, Bob!
